LA County Public Works- STEAM Outreach Program
Engineering
The mission of the LA County Public Works STEAM Outreach Program is to motivate our next generation to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).
The Program provides opportunities for our employees to visit educational institutions to make presentations related to their fields. Public Works' employees have experience in the design, construction, and operation of roads, traffic signals, bridges, airports, sewers, water supply, flood control, water quality, and water conservation facilities. Presenters are able to give hands-on accounts of the projects that they have worked on and how they have a positive impact on people's daily lives. By describing the excitement and challenges of their work, presenters will inspire youth to pursue STEAM fields.
Watershed Model - We will use a physical model of a watershed to demonstrate and explain the basic concepts behind water supply and quality, and how they play role in the unique Southern Californian landscape.
