UC, Santa Cruz - Creating Equity in STEAM (CrEST)
Scientific Research
CrEST is an umbrella of programs which seeks to engage students and the public in critical thinking in the context of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) research. With a focus on serving BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, people of color) students, CrEST works with Indigenous students within the United States, and has expanded its global cohort of international students across various countries in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. Our three main programs include Shadow the Scientists, Python and Research (PyaR), and Science Internship Program (SIP).
CrEST operates three main STEAM research programs for youth: Shadow the Scientists (StS) (appropriate for middle to high school students), Python and Research (PyaR) (appropriate for high school students) and the Science Internship Program (SIP) (for high school students ages 14-17). CrEST has a strong focus on underserved and historically excluded students and educators.
Our booth will present our educational research opportunities students can participate in, including discussion of scholarships and free activities, and more.
